Non-profit funding agencies and social justice activists have similar intended outcomes, but rarely partner. The Center for Care Innovations (CCI) (2022) suggests partnerships, even those that are like-minded and idealistic, often result in toxic and traumatic competition. Both groups of organizations have complex visions for a path forward, however managing these divergent visions is critical for a consultant focused on improving equity in education. This can be accomplished by crafting community agreements, regular check-ins, uncomfortable conversations, and strong, honest, personal connections (CCI, 2022). Partnerships that move too fast often do not listen and miss important facets of each’s respective work. The consultants at Educational Equity are skilled in navigating these dynamics.

Given the school grading system in the State of Florida and the consequences of habitually underperforming schools, the urgency to find solutions exists. Likewise, community groups dedicated to other social justice causes that contribute to the achievement gap are urgently seeking solutions to improve community-wide outcomes. These two realms of influence naturally intersect as crime and incarceration rates, environmental concerns, and social support networks significantly contribute to educational outcomes. To be successful, a consultant practitioner must take a holistic approach to the problem and address both societal and educational outcomes as both are essential to student outcomes. This principle of holistic reform is at the heart of Educational Equity.
